Chaucer the Dog is at it again. The literary fox terrier is now busy “authoring” a series of elementary school titles for Canterbury Tails Books, our new children’s division. Learning Is Cool… It’s the First Day of School!, the first of six books in the Chaucer in the Classroom series, is due out in August.
Subsequent titles in the series will address President’s Day, Valentine’s Day, the 100th Day of School, Career Day, and school anti-drug campaigns (such as D.A.R.E. programs and Red Ribbon Week).
Written for the K-2 market, the Chaucer in the Classroom series aims to present useful information about special days in the school calendar in a dynamic, kid-appealing format.
In Learning Is Cool, for example, Chaucer walks his young readers through the first day of school. He introduces them to the new places and people they’ll meet, he explains the structure of the school day, and he discusses why rules about sharing and safety are important.
The book works as well for school district Step-Up Days for preschoolers and kindergartners and for summer reading programs as it does at the start of the academic year.
